IAAI buyer fees & auction fees, explained
IAAI buyer fees are tiered by winning bid, and the total IAAI auction fees stack several charges on top: the buyer fee, the internet bid fee (lower than Copart's — it caps at $139), a $79 service fee in place of Copart's gate fee, a $15 environmental fee, and a title/documentation fee. Because IAAI sells mostly insurance total-loss vehicles, factor the salvage or rebuilt title discount into your resale before you bid — the calculator above gives you the fee side; the salvage and rebuilt title value calculators give you the resale side.
How IAAI fees work
Buyer fee (tiered)
Flat amounts per bid tier. A $1,500 bid: $215. A $5,000 bid: $480. A $15,000 bid: $1,125 (7.5%). The largest single fee on most bids.
Internet bid fee
Tiered fee for online bidders: $49 under $1K, $79 at $1K-$5K, $109 at $5K-$10K, $139 above $10K. Lower than Copart's internet bid fee.
Service fee ($79)
IAAI's equivalent of Copart's gate fee. Charged on every winning bid regardless of price.
Storage (2 free days)
IAAI typically gives 2 free storage days after sale (vs Copart's 3). After that, ~$30/day. Schedule transport early to avoid runaway storage.
