What payment methods does Manheim accept?

The purchase terms state that online payment on Manheim.com is accepted through "ACH or Floor Plan." The new dealer FAQ tells you where: "From the Manheim.com home page, click Make a Payment under Financials at the top of the page."

The pages we read do not list cards, checks or wires, and we are not going to guess. If you need a method other than ACH or floor plan, ask client care before the sale, not after. Contact details for Customer Care are on Manheim's Simulcast help page.

When is Manheim payment due?

"On the date of purchase." The terms say payment is still due then, a late fee applies after business day 3 of aging, and buying privileges are suspended after business day 4.

Aging starts on the latest of three dates, and the page names two of them: the "Title received date" and the "Arbitration resolution date," counted in business days. Aging clocks are why a car with a delayed title or an open claim is not a reason to skip a payment. See Manheim title present vs title absent and Manheim arbitration deadlines.

How is the Manheim late fee calculated?

The fee base is the sale price plus the buy fee and any other charge added to the vehicle price. The rate is 3%, with a $40 floor and a $400 cap. Using our fee code on four placeholders:

Price plus buy fee and added charges3%Fee charged
$500$15$40 (floor)
$8,000$240$240
$10,000$300$300
$20,000$600$400 (cap)

The cap makes late payment cheapest on expensive cars. That is not a plan: the real cost is day-4 suspension. Manheim's page says late fees do not currently apply at the Mississippi and Massachusetts auctions. More on the fee itself in Manheim buyer fees.

Do you pay before you pick up the car?

The FAQ says "sometimes payment will be required prior to the vehicle being available for pick up," and that clicking the Ready button "will allow you to print the vehicle release, which you will need to pick up your vehicle." If a driver is waiting at the gate, confirm the Ready status the day before.

Storage clocks are separate and set by location. See Manheim storage fees.

Should you pay by ACH or floor plan?

That is a cash-flow question, and the answer is on your own sheet. Floor plan moves the cost into interest on a line of credit. Our floor plan vs bank loan holding cost comparison and the holding cost calculator show how days to sell changes it. The faster the car sells, the less the financing choice matters.

Put the payment next to the exit price

A car you cannot sell quickly stays on the books after the payment clears. The free CarFlipIQ Chrome extension shows local resale, days to sell and a max bid after fees on Copart and IAAI lot pages. New accounts start with a 7-day free trial (card required, $0 today). Its manifest also lists manheim.com, so it loads on Manheim search and detail pages too. Manheim publishes no buyer fee table, so net your own rate-sheet fee out of any max bid by hand.

How we get these numbers

Market figures come from LocalIQ™, CarFlipIQ's index of asking prices on local used-car listings. We report medians rather than averages, so a few outlier listings can't drag the number, and a model only appears once it has at least 10 listings behind it. Treat the median asking price as your resale ceiling. How we get our numbers →
