Manheim Digital Buyer Protection is free coverage for gross misrepresentations on digital purchases, and it only applies if the car has a completed inspection report. It is not a buy-back guarantee, and a claim has to clear a minimum value before Manheim will look at it.

What does Manheim Digital Buyer Protection cover?
Manheim describes it as complimentary coverage for buyers on its digital channels. It covers "gross misrepresentations found in a visual inspection," and the page states it is "not a 'buy-back' guarantee."
Eligible purchases are vehicles bought through Simulcast Live, Timed, or Manheim-facilitated OVE.com sales "with a completed inspection report," where the inspection was "performed by Manheim or a Manheim approved third-party vendor." For how those channels differ, see Simulcast vs OVE vs in-lane.
What is the minimum claim?
| Purchase price | Minimum total claim | Minimum per defect |
|---|---|---|
| Under $50,000 | $800 | $400 estimated wholesale repair cost |
| $50,000 or more | 2% of purchase price | 1% of purchase price |
Two or more defects can be combined to reach the total. The page says mechanical defects are handled under NAAA arbitration guidelines. The claim window "follows the Manheim digital arbitration time period" (10 calendar days online, see Manheim arbitration deadlines).
What is excluded?
The page lists:
- AS-IS, TRA and inoperable vehicles.
- Vehicles with significant aftermarket modifications, or exotic models.
- Issues disclosed in the inspection report or pre-sale documentation.
- Any damage occurring after the sale or during transportation.
- All mechanical and electrical components on EVs and hybrids.
The third exclusion is the one that costs dealers. If the report discloses it, it is not a protection claim. Read the report as if you already own the car (see how to read a Manheim condition report).
Does transport delay change the window?
Manheim says buyers using Ready Logistics may receive "a 2-day extension to file valid arbitration claims" if transportation delays push delivery beyond the standard 10-day window. The Ready+2 policy has its own conditions: order within 2 days of sale and the vehicle ready for release. See Manheim transport and Ready+2.
Is it the same as a post-sale inspection?
No. Digital Buyer Protection is complimentary and visual-inspection based. A post-sale inspection is a paid mechanical, structural and flood check with a 7-day or 14-day guarantee. Which one covers a given defect is a question to put to Manheim before you buy.
How do you file a claim without losing it on a technicality?
The page ties the claim window to the digital arbitration period, so the habits that matter are the boring ones:
- Open the inspection report on the day you buy and note every disclosed item, so you know what is excluded before a problem shows up.
- Photograph the car at release and keep the transport paperwork, since damage after the sale or during transportation is excluded.
- Get a repair estimate in writing the moment you find a defect, and compare it with the per-defect minimum for your price band.
- File inside the window. Manheim's pages state no grace period beyond the Ready+2 extension.
How should you treat protection in your max bid?
Do not price it in. A claim minimum means small defects are yours. Bid as if the protection did not exist, then treat any claim as an exception. The max bid calculator works backward from your local resale price, and the free CarFlipIQ Chrome extension shows local resale, days to sell and a max bid after fees on Copart and IAAI lot pages. New accounts start with a 7-day free trial (card required, $0 today). Its manifest also lists manheim.com, so it loads on Manheim search and detail pages too. Manheim publishes no buyer fee table, so net your own rate-sheet fee out of any max bid by hand.
