At Manheim a car is either Title Present or Title Absent after the sale, and a blue light means the title is absent. Manheim's FAQ says Title Absent vehicles may be delayed, and the pages we read give no delivery time, so treat any title date as unknown until the auction confirms it.

What is the difference between Title Present and Title Absent?
The FAQ states: "There are two statuses for titles on vehicles post auction, Title Present and Title Absent." Titles ship after purchase, but Title Absent vehicles may be delayed. The page does not say how long.
For a dealer, the difference is a cash-cycle question. A car with the title in hand can be retitled and sold. A car without it can sit on your lot, collecting holding cost, while you wait.
What does the blue light mean?
Per Manheim's Simulcast Buyer's Guide, the lights are red ("vehicle sold 'as is'"), yellow ("sold under announced conditions"), green ("free of any known major defects") and blue ("title is absent"). The blue light is the signal to ask a question before you bid, not after. See the full list in Manheim run list and sale lights.
What does a missing title do to your payment clock?
Nothing in your favor. Manheim's purchase terms say payment is due on the date of purchase. Late-fee aging starts on the latest of three dates, one of which is the "Title received date," counted in business days.
Read that carefully: it describes when aging starts, not permission to delay payment. The late fee is 3% after business day 3 (minimum $40, maximum $400), and buying privileges are suspended after business day 4. Mechanics in how to pay Manheim.
What does the title have to do with arbitration?
If you file a claim, Manheim's arbitration page lists "return the title to the designated Manheim location" among the buyer milestones, each due within 5 calendar days of the arbitrator's request. A title you do not have is a title you cannot return. Full list: Manheim arbitration deadlines.
How do you plan around a title that may be late?
A short checklist, none of it policy:
- Look at the light before you bid. Blue means ask.
- Ask the selling auction what the title status is and when it expects it.
- Add the delay to your holding cost. A car you cannot retail is dead weight on a floor plan.
- Check what your state needs from you for a dealer retitle with the car title fee calculator and vehicle sales tax calculator.
Holding cost is the number that moves. The holding cost calculator shows the daily drag, and floor plan cost per day explains how it builds.
What should you ask the auction about a Title Absent car?
Manheim's pages give no answers here, so the questions are yours to put to the selling auction before you bid:
- Who holds the title, and has it been requested?
- Does the auction have an expected date, and is it in writing?
- What happens to the sale if the title never arrives?
- Is there a seller-side deadline for turning the title in? Manheim's pages we read do not state one, so ask.
Write the answers next to the stock number. If the auction cannot answer, price the car as if the title could take weeks, because you have no source saying otherwise.

The free CarFlipIQ Chrome extension shows local resale, days to sell and a max bid after fees on Copart and IAAI lot pages. New accounts start with a 7-day free trial (card required, $0 today). Its manifest also lists manheim.com, so it loads on Manheim search and detail pages too. Manheim publishes no buyer fee table, so net your own rate-sheet fee out of any max bid by hand, or use the max bid calculator.
